How to Fix Message Reactions Not Working on Instagram

Instagram is a favorite social media platform for most of you. It allows you to upload/watch images, stories, videos, and short reels. In addition, it allows you to quickly reply to direct messages. While replying to direct messages, you can use different emojis based on your feelings and reactions. Sometimes, you may not see the little pop-up menu when you want to react to the received direct messages. It happens when message reactions are not working on this platform.  

There are several reasons behind this issue. The outdated app, poor internet connection, privacy settings, Instagram Messaging not updated, temporary glitches, account restrictions, use of Instagram Lite, etc. are some of those reasons. As a user, you need to find the primary issue and fix it to use this social media platform constantly. 

Based on the causes/reasons, there will be a specific solution to what you are facing on Instagram. You can try the following ways/steps to know what helps you fix the issue: 

Log into your Instagram account again

Step 1: Open the Instagram app on your iPhone or Android smartphone. 

Step 2: Go to the bottom-right corner and click on your profile icon.

Step 3: Click on the hamburger icon, which will be located at the top right corner. 

Step 4: Scroll down the options and choose Settings and Privacy.

Step 5: Click on the Log out option after scrolling down to the bottom.

Step 6: As the process ends, do relogging into your Instagram account and check if the issue is resolved. 

Update your Instagram app 

Step 1: Go to the Google Play Store or App Store on your Android mobile or iPhone. 

Step 2: Search for Instagram to find the latest version. 

Step 3: Download and install the latest version. The updated version could help you start reacting to direct messages.

Update the Instagram Messaging 

Step 1: Open your Instagram profile. 

Step 2: Click on the three dots menu. 

Step 3: Go to the Settings option. 

Step 4: Click on Update Messaging. 

Step 5: Tap on Update to confirm your request. 

Clear your Instagram cache

Step 1: Open the Settings on your smartphone. 

Step 2: Click on the option, Apps & notifications. 

Step 3: Now, click on the app info.

Step 4: Find the Instagram app in the list of installed apps on your device. 

Step 5: Choose the option, Storage & cache.

Step 6: Click on Clear Cache. 

Reinstall the Instagram app

Step 1: Go to the list of apps on your device. 

Step 2: Click on the Instagram app icon. 

Step 3: Tap on Uninstall from the displayed options. 

Step 4: Click on Uninstall again to confirm your request. 

Step 5: Let the uninstallation process end. 

Step 6: Download and install the Instagram app again from the respective app store on your device. 

Step 7: Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process and account setting. 

Step 8: Try reacting to messages as the whole process ends and know whether the issue is resolved. 

Check your internet connection

Step 1: Have a close look at the signal strength of your mobile or WiFi internet. 

Step 2: Restart your mobile data or WiFi router if the signal strength is poor. 

Step 3: Switch to a better internet connection. 

Step 4: Call your internet service provider if the connection is not stable. 

Check your privacy settings

Step 1: Go to the Privacy after opening the Settings app on your device. 

Step 2: Find whether you have made any restrictions. 

Step 3: Remove the restriction in Privacy Settings and the app if there is any. 

Note – Keep in mind that some of the above-mentioned steps may not work for you. Consult an experienced technician if none of these steps helps you sort out the issue.
